From Villa Balboa Puerto Vallarta Pool Patio looking up into the sky

Hello dear friends,

The beginning of the summer season in Puerto Vallarta is a call for reflection. As we bid farewell to friends temporarily for the season we are reminded to slow down and get used to the leisurely pace which brought us here in the first place. Our schedules return to normal and soon our sleeping and eating cycles follow suit. Alas, it is a time to cherish those we love, rekindle estranged friendships, catch up on our reading and devote time to our interrupted hobbies… That said, the past couple of months at Villa Balboa have been witness to a whirlwind of activity. This flurry is hard to imagine for visitors in a place built for their enjoyment and relaxation; but for us behind the scenes it is a tangible reality.

After our first summer visitors departed, we proudly hosted the press conference for Puerto Vallarta’s May Cultural Festival. This festival of the arts is held every year to commemorate the anniversary of the city’s foundation. In addition to the attendance of the press, we were honored by the presence of our Mayor, members of the city council and the head of the Culture Department. Mayor Salvador González Reséndiz announced the program of events for these festivities. We were also fortunate to host one of the performers and his entourage. The Gajuca-Butoh International Company is a world-renowned Chilean ensemble that has travelled around the globe. Based on the Japanese discipline of Butoh dance and performance, they presented a piece entitled “Mictlán” after a critically acclaimed opening in Guadalajara. After their performance the Company was treated to a stellar dinner party created by Seth J. Cloutman of Food by Seth. This dinner also served as thank you to all of the sponsors who participated in this festival. Attendants enjoyed a creative Mexican menu while gazing at the last rays of sunset. The room was abuzz with the latest cultural projects for Puerto Vallarta. But let us not get ahead of ourselves; I will talk about those plans in the following paragraphs. It was a great pleasure to have such intellectually stimulating company in the cultural atmosphere of the festival.

Villa Balboa was chosen amongst Vallarta’s top properties to participate in a bit of a traveller experiment. This project was a version on steroids of Trip Advisor. A group of four property agents visited 4 villas in 8 days. They reported everything in detail through video log and blogged about their experiences at the four properties. You can follow their experience by visiting: http://villasandcondos.blogspot.com/

One of the most exciting projects for our city is the proposed construction of a world-class space for art. A forum will be held to discuss the Museum Project for Puerto Vallarta. In the words of Monica Venegas Sanchéz who leads the city’s Culture Department: “The objective of this forum is to give an opportunity to the community to voice their opinion. A panel of specialists in museum studies, curators, architects and cultural leaders will preside over conferences. These specialists will explain from their own areas of expertise the kind of institution that would be suitable for our city. The whole community is invited to attend this forum. The purpose is to reflect upon the social function of museums as cultural institutions. It is also a call to think about a new and exciting chapter in the cultural development of our city”. Please plan to attend City Hall this Friday June 4 th at 10am. The forum will be centered around nine different topics that will be discussed by one of the specialists.
