Playa Del Carmen is a hidden gem on the Caribbean coast of Eastern Mexico. It is a resort community in a small Mexican village with white sandy beaches and turquoise seas. Playa del Carmen is inhabited and visited by mostly Europeans, and because of that it has a very international culture. Playa is only 45 minutes from Cancun, but the town is completely different. Playa has the inherent charm of its old days as a Mexican village combined with the chic and trendy hot spots that people come from around the world to indulge in. The town of Playa has a limit on building heights, 3-4 stories and most have grass hut roofing, and the charming cobblestone streets are lined with unique restaurants, boutiques, and incredible night life. At the beach you will be spoiled by the incredible food, frozen drinks, and European chill-out music straight from London. The beaches are liberal and somewhat topless. The second best diving in the world is on the island Cozumel, only a half hour boat ride away. In Cozumel, even when snorkeling, you will see creatures of the sea that you have only heard about in storybooks. In Playa you do not need a car, life here is relaxing and slow, and everything is a short stroll down the road. Once you spend a holiday in Playa Del Carmen, you will have a hard time leaving.
